Summer (and even spring, for that matter) can turn out to be pretty expensive months. There’s the heat to consider, which will see you investing in ways to keep cool. There are also vacations or national holidays to consider.
Of course, problems with temperatures and national holidays can be applied to pretty much any season, right? (Winter says “hello”.) But the tips for conserving money in the winter don’t always apply so well to these warmer months. So we’re going to take a look at some of the best ways in which you can ensure you and your family are staying comfortable and having fun while refraining from breaking the bank!
Be strategic with air conditioning
Air conditioning can get more expensive than you may think. There are plenty of families who are aware of the costs of air conditioning but still aren’t aware of the mistakes they may be making that results in driving up costs. The fact is that many of us can’t really avoid using the air conditioning; it just gets way too hot in some parts of the country; and when there’s no breeze outside, it can feel like you don’t have much choice.
Still, you should limit air conditioning use as much as you can. One solution that can really help you cool off is setting up cross ventilation in your home. That’s nowhere near as complex as it sounds, by the way! It just means opening windows on opposite sides of your home and using a simple home fan to exhaust the warm air out of one of them!
Explore all your holiday options
Sure, the public holidays of spring and summer don’t exactly match the potential expense of, say, Christmas. But there are still holidays in which families tend to spend quite a surprising amount of money. Save money by looking into holiday planning on a budget. Easter is one of the obvious ones to consider, but there’s one coming up very soon that some people tend to celebrate in an even more elaborate fashion: July the fourth, a.k.a. Independence Day!
If you take ‘holiday’ to mean ‘vacation’, then you should also take care to consider all your options there, too. Be open with your potential destinations, instead of assuming you need to go somewhere extravagant. In fact, why not consider a staycation?
Head outdoors in the evening
When the weather is cold, we tend to spend our evenings after work locked up inside. We’ll have the heating on, but we’ll also tend to use electricity to entertain ourselves; we’ll be watching television or movies or playing video games, things like that. But spring and summer evenings are beautiful things; it’s not too scorching, and there’s usually a nice breeze (which helps save you from having to rely too much on the air conditioning, as you might when you stay inside!). Take advantage of this.
If you want to entertain yourself in the evening after work, then save some money and electricity and simply go outside. You’ll spend less because you won’t be running the television, the lights, or the air conditioning.
