Celebrating your children’s birthdays are one of the great joys of parenthood. Seeing them grow and reflect on what they’ve achieved in the year really puts things in perspective- even though it does always feel like time is slipping away too quickly! We, of course, want to make birthdays a fun and special o, of course, something they will enjoy now and look back on in years to come with fond memories. But birthdays don’t have to be about masses of toys, there are other things you can do instead. A couple of smaller token gifts for them to unwrap is no bad thing, but if you’re already drowning in a sea of toys, there are other things you can do instead. Let’s face it, friends and relatives will always arrive with wrapped gifts, so it’s not like they will feel in any way deprived. This gives you a little scope to do something else instead. Here are a few ideas to help celebrate your child’s birthday that keeps them busy- and allows them to have fun without the need for lots of new toys!
A Day Out
It could be to a zoo, a theme park, a water park or some other attraction that they’ve been bugging you to go and see! A day out gives you a chance to have family bonding time while everyone has a blast, being up and about doing something like this is far better than being stuck at home playing with toys or on technology. It keeps them busy for a large majority of the day and is something they will enjoy and remember.
An Evening of Fun
Perhaps they have school on the day of their birthday, meaning a day trip on the day itself is off the agenda. But you can still make the rest of the day awesome for them when they get home. How about a trip to the cinema, bowling or a few hours in an ice skating rink? Finish off the evening with a family meal where you can all sit down and spend some quality time together. There are plenty of places you can go to which offer fantastic family dining without breaking the bank, you can see on Denny’s menu, for example, there are a range of awesome burgers all for less than $10. Even if you choose to live a very healthy family lifestyle usually, a birthday is the time to let your hair down and give everyone the opportunity to indulge in exactly what they fancy!
Throw a Party at Home
Running around with their friends and having fun will provide far more enjoyment than any gift from Toys R Us! Invite their friends from school and any extracurricular activities and throw a party at home. You could hire a bouncy castle and some inflatables such as a big ball pit. Arrange various party games with prizes and lay out some tasty food. What could be more exciting as a child?!
