There is no reason why you shouldn’t go away on holiday with very young children, but as many parents will know, the logistics can be challenging. While older kids can benefit from new travel experiences, babies will spend most of their time pooping and sleeping. However, that doesn’t mean they won’t enjoy the holiday, and there will be new sights for them to behold.
To help you with your vacation plans this summer, here is some advice that will hopefully guarantee you a great holiday, no matter how many diapers you need to change.
Pack light
Packing your bags for a holiday can be an exciting yet stressful experience. There is the constant fear that you have forgotten something important, especially when it comes to your child. There are some essential items you need with you, but you don’t need to pack too much of anything that you can easily replace on holiday. While the same applies to your own stuff, the tendency for parents is to be over cautious. Having a bag stuffed with diapers is going to leave no room for anything else, so be practical and know how many you are likely to need on the journey.
Travel arrangements
It can be embarrassing for parents when their child decides to throw a tantrum, not least on a plane where other passengers can’t escape the noise. You may prefer to travel by car to save the eardrums of others, but if you do decide to fly somewhere, maybe consider the following.
For starters, you probably don’t need to pay for your baby on the flight, so take advantage of a holiday now as you there will be greater costs when your child gets older.
As we all know, airlines have a habit of losing our baggage in transit so bring hand luggage with spare clothes, diapers, and anything else you deem necessary. Most babies get nervous in strange surroundings, so being on a plane could be an unnerving experience. However, their feeding bottle should sooth them, keeping them quiet and hopefully sending them off to sleep for at least part of the journey.
Accommodation
While older kids will enjoy the adventures a camping holiday may bring, you should think about home comforts when carrying small children. Therefore, a hotel chain such as Amsterdam Inn & Suites may be a better idea. With access to everything you need, especially warmth and shelter, you and your baby will benefit from a comfortable environment.
Activities
While you clearly can’t embark on a rock climbing expedition, you can still do most activities such as sightseeing or walking through the countryside, despite having a young child with you. Provided you have a pram or a papoose; your child will sleep while you exert your energy.
Above all, have fun. With a young baby, you don’t need to keep them as occupied as an older child who demands to be entertained. Therefore, you may find you have more time to tailor your holiday to your needs, despite having your young one traveling with you.
