Family homes are generally full of clutter that has amassed over the year, but there will always be a use for something that you last looked at six or so years ago; either another child will need it, or it can double up in its use. With that in mind, what are the things that have definitely proved more than their worth over the test of time?
Air Beds
There are so many uses to air beds that it’s hard to know where to begin. Not only are they great to pull out if you have any guests staying over (they’re fantastic for kids sleepovers!), but they’re also an essential if you want a comfortable camping trip. You can buy online at Choose Mattress so you don’t even have to venture outdoors to purchase. Pushed against a wall they can turn into a sofa, and if you’re really stuck on things to do for fun on a rainy day then they can also double up as a makeshift bouncy castle if you get the consistency right – but beware not to be too vigorous and always have a puncture kit at the ready just in case. Although it’s good to have a foot pump as a backup just in case you don’t have access to electricity at any given point, an electric pump will save you so much time and energy when trying to blow your bed up – so it’s definitely worth going out and investing in one.
Stools
Not only are little stools brilliant for you to get things down from hard-to-reach places, but they’re also very important in giving the little human in your life a bit more independence. Obviously, you don’t want them reaching things that they shouldn’t, but for simple tasks like fetching a book that’s on a worktop or climbing onto the toilet by themselves, they can be an absolutely essential piece of kit to have around the home. They’ll always hold their worth as time goes on for any other DIY tasks that you have going on, from tapping in nails to hanging up bunting or fairy lights.
Big Bowls/Buckets
There will come a point where you just realize that you need a big bowl or bucket in your life, especially in a family home. They’re brilliant in the day to day maintenance of your home, helping from cleaning the windows to being a good place to wash your clothes when you’re wiping around the house. Not only that but in the early years when your little one goes through the stage of getting bugs, having a bowl handy to catch any fluids that may be brought up is a lifesaver. Turn it over (when clean…) and you’ve got a drum, ready to become an instrument in the wooden spoon band. Into the summer they’re great for getting out and tie-dying clothes for a creative twist on your clothing, and come the winter, filled with sand and weights, they’re a great stand for your Christmas tree to go in. They really are a pretty standard tool that every home needs to have.
