This was our first time experiencing Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween, and I have to say it will not disappoint! The kids were super excited the days leading up to the event, and I tried to make it as fun for them as possible by having them help in the preparations.

I will say that if you are an annual pass holder like we are you can save up to 10% percent on ticket prices. Download My Disney Experience App
I can’t tell you how many times people have mentioned to me that they wished they had planned their vacation or special occasion better. That is why I always tell everyone to download the My Disney Experience App, trust me it will come in handy at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.
With your tickets you can link your tickets to your magicband, it comes in handy especially if you plan on getting to the park earlier than 7pm when the party starts. That way you can get fastpasses to any of the rides that you want to ride before the party, trust me when I tell you there is too much to do when everything opens at 7pm for you to be riding rides.
On the App you can also see what times the shows start, as well as the wait time for rides. To sign up for My Disney Experience click here: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/plan/
Make Costumes
We went to the party in September; I can tell you one of the things that crossed my mind was going all out on the costumes. However we live in Florida, during September it is still pretty hot and humid instead of buying costumes and running the risk of packing extra clothes. Which would lead to an extra bag or extra weight to carry I decided to make the boys shirts.
I went to Hobby Lobby and bought them plain cotton shirts, and I bought Mickey and letter iron-Ons. I also bought plain black headbands, some Halloween fabric, and some foam to make their Halloween Mickey Ears. All for about $20, a lot of the stuff I bought was on sale, and the shirts were super easy to make as well as the ears.
I do not know how to sew, but I made the ears using only hot glue. The kids helped me out with the whole process, except for the gluing part, and they had a blast!
Pack Rain Ponchos
This was a lesson that we learned this year, while attending our first Mickey’s Not So Scary. The rain hit us right while we were waiting to meet Moana, I have to say I was pretty disappointed, that I did not pack anything for us in case we were hit by the rain. What was even more disappointing was the fact that we had already been in line to meet her for 45 min, and it started pouring so we had to get out of the line.
The rain was on and off for pretty much the rest of the night, and sine we have two little ones 2 and 5, they started to complain about being cold, wet, well you parents know how it goes. So my husband bought us ponchos which were not bad $9 for kids and $10 for adults, not to mention we got a nice little souvenir! Do not make the same mistake we did and be prepared, luckily I did pack extra clothes for the kids so I was able to keep them dry.
Bring a Portable Charger for your Phone
There will be so many moments that you will be able to share as a family I suggest bringing a portable charger for your phone. Believe it or not time flies and so does battery usage, before you know it you could have a drained battery and miss out on some great shots of characters, your kids trick or treating, or let’s face it brag pictures to show friends and family how they missed out on all of the fun!
Get in line early to meet Characters
Some of the characters that you will probably want to meet like “Moana”, “Jack and Sally” they will most likely have long wait times to take pictures with them. I know when we went to attempt to take pictures with “Moana” we got in line at 4:45 and she was scheduled to come out at 5:45pm, but due to lightning and rain they kept pushing her time back so it turned into a 2 hour wait.
Same thing goes for “Jack and Sally” their wait was 2 hours long. For me this was really hard to do because I have smaller kids, who do not have the patience to sit in a line that long. Not to worry there were some other character lines that were not as busy like “Alice” and “Mad Hatter” or “Lotso” from Toy Story. I figured as they get older we can get stay in line a bit longer as my 5 year old told me “mom I am here to get candy!”
Here are where some of the characters are located:

Try the Featured Treats
I have to say I could not wait to try the Jack Skellington dessert; it was a push pop that had chocolate cake, with white chocolate frosting, whip cream, like a rice crispy treat and the bottom with a white pudding. It was delicious! I bought the kids their own food and they enjoyed it as well.
We got to the park early around 4pm, so I planned on having dinner at the park we ate at the Columbia House which is at Liberty Square. The food was good they have a variety, from seafood to chicken, and the treats from Sleepy Hollow were also good like their Chicken and Waffles.
You have to wait until 7 pm for the Halloween treats the Jack Skellington dessert along with the Mickey Pumpkin waffle and ice cream, you can get at Sleepy Hollow.
Trick or Treat
One of the things I really enjoyed about going to Mickey’s Not So Scary, was that I felt that my kids were safe while trick or treating. Over the years I have heard so many stories of parents finding pins, or shattered glass in the children’s candy. So that was one less anxiety I felt that I had to worry about, and if you’re like me I am OK with my kids not overloading on candy.
My boys are pretty hyper without candy, and we did not bring an extra bag to stuff more candy. I feel the bag that you get, while some might say it is rather small, it holds a good quantity amount of candy. However, if you are one of those families that like loads of candy then I recommend bringing your own bag with you. If you have any type of allergy, they have allergy friendly stations.

A word of advice we decided to do the Hocus Pocus Spelltacular Show at 8:15pm, then the Boo To You Parade at 9:15pm and then end with the fireworks at 10:15pm. The festivities end at 12:00am and the shows have different times if you miss one or the other, but make sure you make time for them because they are amazing especially the parade! My kids loved all of the characters that they were used to and some that you do not get to see very often like “Jack Sparrow”! And I mean you can’t leave the park without seeing Hallowishes, amazing storytelling, mixed with some great music and visuals, it definitely will captivate you and the family.
