I was invited to a semi-expense paid trip to Branson, courtesy of Stone Castle Hotel, to attend the #BloggingBranson Event in exchange for my coverage. No other compensation was provided. All views shared are completely my own.
BaldKnobber History
You might be asking yourself what the word Bald Knobber means. Well, it goes back a bit in time. The Bald Knobbers were a group of vigilantes in the Ozark region of southwest Missouri from 1883 to 1889. They are commonly depicted wearing black horned hoods with white outlines of faces painted on them, a distinction that evolved during the rapid proliferation of the group into neighboring counties from its Taney County origins. The group got its name from the grassy bald knob summits of the nearby Ozark Mountains.
The hill where they first met, Snapp’s Bald, is located just north of Kirbyville, Missouri. As early as 1887, the Bald Knobber story was already being translated into popular culture as a play titled “The Bald Knob Tragedy of Taney and Christian Counties”. The start of Branson-area and Tanney County tourism began with the 1907 publication of Harold Bell Wright’s The Shepherd of the Hills, which features generic Bald Knobbers as the story’s villains. Later, the Mabe family began a local country and western comedy revue called “Baldknobbers” (one word, and named solely for the humorous quality of the name rather than for any historical purpose). The Mabe family attraction started the music-show presence for which Branson has become famous.
A New Beginning
The Mabe family has been performing since 1959. It is truly a family tradition that has been passed down. Now in its third generation lead by Brandon Mabe, you get to see how this wonderful family is able to incorporate country songs from today, mixed with legendary country songs. One of the great things about the show is the performance with Brandon and his wife Megan. She has an incredible voice. The show also features Tim Mabe as Droopy Drawers and his sidekick Hargus. They do a great job of entertaining the crowd with their crazy antics and stories.
Branson’s Famous Balbknobbers is Branson’s number 1 top voted band, and for good reason. They are a wonderful talented group of people that come from all over the country, and that have been performing in Branson for a while. During the show you will be able to hear and see the entire Mabe family perform together, and watch a tribute to veterans like you have never seen before.
