St Augustine Florida A Historical Gem

Sunshine and the beach always make for a fun time, especially when you’re with family. Recently, my family took a well deserved trip to St. Augustine, Florida! Have you ever considered taking your family there? The sun was shining, while we were there, which meant it was a great week! If you’ve been planning a trip to St. Augustine and aren’t sure what to do, you need these tips in your life.

Fountain of Youth

One of our first stops in St. Augustine was the Fountain of Youth. This is a historical attraction that is also a must see, while in St. Augustine. Learning about the saga of Juan Ponce de Leon was amazing. Exploring all the exhibits was also fun. The exhibits consist of:

• The Spring House
• Navigators Planetarium
• Discovery Globe
• The Peacocks
• Blacksmith Exhibit
• Timucuan Burials
• Timucuan Village
• Nombre De Dios Mission
• 1565 Menendez Settlement
• Excavations
• Spanish Outlook

Alligator Farm

It’s been a lifetime goal of mine to see alligators up close and personal. The Alligator Farm was a family outing that everyone was looking forward to. The St. Augustine Alligator Farm has several exhibits and attractions to check out. This is an alligator farm that allows you to see ALL species of crocodilian. We spent some time at each exhibit. They have about 13 in total, so this is a place in which you can spend a lot of time.

• Albino Alligators – It was so cool seeing albino alligators, up close!
• Birds of Africa – You are sure to see some very wild-looking birds here.
• Exotic Birds & Animals – The kids thought some of these birds and animals were WILD looking!
• FL Native Reptiles – Seeing all of the reptiles native to Florida was awesome.
• Fossil Discoveries – It’s not everyday that you get to discover fossils.
• Gomek Forever – Gomek is huge, but you need to see him in person. He’s almost 18 feet long and nearly 2,000 pounds.
• The other exhibits include the land of crocodiles, lemurs of Madagascar, Maximo, Oasis on the Nile, Python Cave, Realm of the Salty, and Wading Bird Rookery.

 

 

Ripley’s Believe it or Not

When we travel, it’s a tradition to hit up Ripley’s Believe it or Not. The location in St. Augustine is super fun and the whole family loved it. Did you know that this was actually the very first permanent Ripley’s attraction. We’re talking shrunken heads, a motorcycle made of bones, and much more. I can say I didn’t hear my kids say they were bored here.

St. Augustine Lighthouse

Visiting St. Augustine can’t be complete without visiting the lighthouse. The St. Augustine Lighthouse is a huge part of the history of this city. Plus, you can visit the Maritime Museum. This is also a great family friendly attraction for the whole family!

 

Restaurants

While in the great city of St. Augustine, you will need to eat something. We found some great little gems to eat at while visiting this town. The first stop was the Metro Diner! This delicious restaurant serves yummy options for breakfast and dinner. We left full and happy.

 

During our stay, we also headed to the Salt Life Food Shack. This is a must eat place in St. Augustine. It’s a local favorite, but also a family favorite of ours. Here you have permission to eat, drink, and be salty. This was a great family resturaunt, I highly recommend it for families with children, my kids loved it!

 

Last but not least, our stay wouldn’t have been complete without having the perfect place to stay. You better believe our time at the Jaybird Inn in St. Augustine was well worth it. The Jaybird Inn is historic on the outside, but very contemporary on the inside. I can tell you that we felt like family the whole time we were here. Not a lot of “inns” have it all together, but this inn does. The rooms are clean, functional, and perfect for a family. It’s the ideal inn for those who want to head to the beach for the day or find another tour or attraction. If you’re looking for a place to stay, while in St. Augustine, I would give the Jaybird Inn a call.
