Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the up and coming new 14 acre expansion to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Set to open sometime next Fall, the new Star Wars land has been shrouded in mystery, since building began in Spring of 2016. As the opening date draws nearer more information is known about the exciting new land worthy of a Galaxy’s Edge Update. Here is an overview of what we now know you can expect to see.
The Makeup
Disney borrowed inspiration from remote trading posts around the world and took a little bit of insight from recent successes like Cars Land and Pandora to create Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. When it’s complete, it promises to be the most immersive theme park experience outside of a Crichton movie.
The setting is a village outpost on Batuu, a planet at the edge of the galaxy. The village, Black Spire, will include a marketplace and put guests in the middle of a story driven by their choices. The tone of the new land will be a lawless territory where scoundrels and nerfherders can lay low. Although there will be a First Order presence as well.
The Attractions
There will be two attractions. One involves piloting the Millennium Falcon, and it’s the anchor attraction most people are excited for. The other, however, is going to be just as interesting and unlike anything imagineering has pursued before. Battle Escape will immerse guests in a battle that is rumored to have guests leaving their vehicles during at least one point in their ride. The more information that comes out, the more questions are raised about what we can actually expect when Galaxy’s Edge opens.
The Dining
There will be two dining locations. One table service and a quick service in the form of Oga’s Cantina. The DJ at this cantina will be recognizable to some as the former Star Tours pilot RX-24. Expect hints of Satu’li Canteen in Pandora and Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Magic Kingdom.
The Characters
For the most part, the current character meet and greets in Hollywood Studios can be expected to move into the new land. One new addition that has been confirmed is Lando’s copilot Nien Nunb. Nunb is present in Return of the Jedi as well as The Force Awakens.
The Merchandise
As with the merchandising craziness when Pandora opened, you can expect similarly unique souvenirs at Galaxy’s Edge. While a lot of the apparel is already available, toy plushes will be a big feature in Black Spire.
