This post is in partnership with Walt Disney Studios, however all opinions are my own.
There are a couple of new characters on the scene during Toy Story 4 and their kind of a big deal. Get ready to fall in love with Gabby Gabby and Forky!
Toy Story 4 hits theaters June 21stI had the opportunity to see the film prior to the release and interview the cast from the film. (Pinch me – this is not a dream!) For me, two important characters that are introduced in Toy Story 4 are Gabby Gabby (voiced by Christina Hendricks) and Forky (voiced by Tony Hale) these characters made the movie come together in a moving way.
I always love when a franchise introduces new key characters! They add such a fun twist and excitement to the movies.
History of Gabby Gabby
The story of Gabby Gabby is a bit interesting…Gabby Gabby was an old vintage doll from the 1950s, but her voice box deteriorated overtime and she grew bitter toward never being adopted by any kids. Therefore, she grew resentful toward other toys and took control of the dummies in the shop.
Christina Hendricks
Voicing Gabby Gabby is Christina Hendricks, who has been nominated for six Primetime Emmy Award nominations, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and two Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. A 2010 poll of female readers taken by Esquire magazine named her “the sexiest woman in the world,” and she was voted Best Looking Woman in America by the publication the same year.
Dummies Anyone?
At the recent press conference, Christina mentioned her fascination with dummies. “It’s not that I really collected dolls and dummies, although that’s a funny sentence, but no. I had always wanted this Charlie McCarthy ventriloquist doll my whole life and I asked for it every year for Christmas, and my parents never got it for me. So as an adult, my husband bought it for me, and I have one now. So when I went in there, they were like, “And look, she’s got these creepy—” and I was like, “But I actually have that in my life, in my home!” Their reaction was “You’re really weird.”
So it was fun for me because I’m like actually an antique store kind of person, so I was like, “Did you guys do background research on me or is this just completely coincidence?” There were a lot of weird coincidences”. Isn’t that so much fun?!
Most of you have probably seen the Toy Story 4 trailers by now and know who Forky is. But if you don’t, here is a brief summary of Forky.
Forky from Toy Story 4
Forky is an adorable, tiny, little spork outfitted with pipe-cleaner arms and a cute, squiggly face that was made by Bonnie herself. It’s the type of toy that could only be loved by a child who spent 20 whole minutes making it, and it’s obvious from the teaser trailer that he doesn’t belong with the rest of Andy and Bonnie’s precious toys. Even Forky admits it, frantically crying out that he isn’t a toy — which feels like a callback to the first Toy Story movies’ central plot, where Buzz Lightyear thought that he was a real Space Ranger, even though Woody tries to tell him that he’s just a toy.
Tony Hale
Tony Hale voices Forky, and I can promise you that if Tony is behind any project, I am going to be sure to see it! If you have no idea who Tony is, he’s known for his role in the Fox comedy series Arrested Development as the neurotic Buster Bluth. Hale played Gary Walsh on the HBO comedy Veep from 2012 until its conclusion in 2019, for which he won the 2013 and 2015 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
At the press conference, Tony expressed how thrilled he was to be a part of the Toy Story 4 franchise “Oh, my gosh. It’s so exciting. Little kids holding Forkys. I mean, it’s very, incredibly surreal, but the thing that I think I get most excited about, and this is genuine, is Forky — not in a sad way, but he really was just like, “I’m trash. I’m made for the trash. This is my sole purpose.” And Woody comes in and says, “You’re more than that. You’re worthy to be loved. You’re worthy to have a purpose.” And I just think, “What a fantastic character to be associated with, as a part of that message.” Because everybody has a purpose. Everybody has worth. I love that”.
As you can see they will be interesting key characters in Toy Story 4! Make sure you head to watch the film when it comes out June 21st!
