Synopsis
In “Onward,” teenage elf brothers Ian and Barley Lightfoot (voices of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt) get an unexpected opportunity to spend one more day with their late dad, embarking on an extraordinary quest aboard Barley’s epic van Guinevere.
Like any good quest, their journey is filled with magic spells, cryptic maps, impossible obstacles and unimaginable discoveries. But when the boys’ fearless mom Laurel (voice of Julia Louis-Dreyfus) realizes her sons are missing, she teams up with a part-lion, part-bat, part-scorpion, former warrior – aka The Manticore (voice of Octavia Spencer) – and heads off to find them. Perilous curses aside, this one magical day could mean more than any of them ever dreamed.
Kids Perspective
We had to opportunity to see “Onward” and at first, I thought it would be too deep of a movie for my kids who are only four and seven. However I decided to interview them on what they thought of the film, and this is what they had to say.
Who was your favorite character?
G: Ian! I think that he is like me, I get scared sometimes but I like how he overcame his fear.
S: The Manticore she was super funny, I like how tough she is I like that she can fly!
Favorite part of the movie?
G: I really liked it when Ian saw everything his brother had done for him.
S: I liked it when Ian and Barley went on an adventure together, reminds me of me and G!
The funniest part of the movie?
G: When the mom goes and gets The Manticore and they fool the police offer, reminded me of you mom!
S: Ian when he turns Barley small I thought that was funny.
As you can tell the kids loved the film, and I have to admit we all shed a tear or two including my husband. What we loved about “Onward” was the meaning behind it. In times especially now family is everything, my dad is far away I barely get to see him so when I saw the film I got very emotional.
The good news is that now you and your family can see “Onward” on digital now and on Disney plus on April 3rd!
