Born in Boca Raton, Florida, Laila Lockhart loved entertaining and performing from an early age. Her interest in acting became apparent at the age of six when her family moved from Florida to Los Angeles. After attending acting classes to perfect her craft, Laila decided she wanted to pursue a career in acting.
Currently, Laila stars as “Gabby” in DreamWorks Animation’s hit Netflix original series Gabby’s Dollhouse, a live action-animation hybrid series that unboxes a surprise before jumping into a fantastical animated world full of adorable cat characters that live inside Gabby’s dollhouse.
Previously, she appeared as “Young Rainbow” on ABC’s hit-show “black-ish” as well as “Kai” in the crime drama series “Shots Fired.” When Laila is not acting, she enjoys playing electric guitar, dancing, singing, taking her dog Milo for long walks, and cuddling with her cat Apollo.
My son Geo had the opportunity to interview Laila along with some other kid reporters and here were some of her answers!
What is the message of Gabby’s Playhouse?
There are several messages that we want kids to keep in mind.
Celebrate mistakes. This is where self-confidence comes in and we want the kids to realize that mistakes are how you learn.
Don’t be afraid to make a mistake.
Having a growth mindset of grit and resilience is important and should be celebrated during this time of dealing with social media and all the comparisons.
