Even though the brand new show on Netflix called “Gabby’s Dollhouse” is geared towards early learners and preschool-aged children, I’m not ashamed to say that I’m pretty much obsessed with it as well.
Who wouldn’t want to live in a life where the magic of reality and animation collide? DreamWorks has once again, done an amazing job in having a show that really resonates and is popular with modern kids.
And I was fortunate enough to get some pretty cool tidbits from Executive Producers Jennifer Twomey and Traci Paige Johnson to learn all about the show! Below you’ll find a recap and summary of some of the cool aspects of this new show that is currently playing on Netflix.

What was the inspiration for Gabby’s Dollhouse?
The inspiration for Gabby’s Dollhouse came from thinking back about what we liked when we were kids. Dollhouses, miniatures, cats…those were just a few fun items that we loved.
Who is Gabby’s Dollhouse geared towards?
Gabby’s Dollhouse is quite popular with preschoolers because it’s all about modern kids connecting as well. The whole “unboxing” toys and watching it on YouTube event is quite popular and we wanted to have that done on the screen as well.
Why Gabby’s Dollhouse?
Everyone loves to open a surprise, right? So it just makes sense to have that same surprise unboxing but instead of opening just a “thing”, the unboxing leads to a story instead.
Being able to watch and see tiny miniatures and then see them animated and being used in the dollhouse or come to life if they’re a character is a pretty cool thing.
How was Gabby cast?
DreamWorks did an amazing job at finding a 10-11-year-old gear that had a great connection with the camera. We needed someone with warmth and energy and out of 1,000 girls, we found our Gabby.
What is the message of Gabby’s Playhouse?
There are several messages that we want kids to keep in mind.
Celebrate mistakes. This is where self-confidence comes in and we want the kids to realize that mistakes are how you learn.
Don’t be afraid to make a mistake.
Having a growth mindset of grit and resilience is important and should be celebrated during this time of dealing with social media and all the comparisons.
Remember to love yourself and be okay with yourself! And every time you’re making a mistake, it means that you’re getting close to learning something as well.
