I love having real-world activities and locations that our kids can learn from, all while having a good time. The more places that we can physically visit, the better.

Why Jacksonville, FL is PERFECT for Homeschool Families
These are just a few of the reasons why we loved exploring the city and learning during the day as well.
Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens
Being able to take the kids and learn about the animals at the zoo creates an entire day full of facts and information. We loved walking around and talking about the animals that we say and I had each kid pick an animal to do further research on once we got home.
Museum of Science and History
The name of this museum says it all! Hours upon hours of science and history are packed within the walls and we were so impressed with how much we all learned.
This was an educational experience for me AND the boys because we’re never too old, or young to learn!
If your homeschool kiddos like hands-on science activities, I encourage you to go here for the day.
Wick: A Candle Bar
What’s better than a hands-on creative class? Being able to learn about candle-making and even pour and make your own candles is quite the learning experience.
And after that, you get to take the candle home with you, too! It’s like a learning class with a fun souvenir!
Explore the many parks
Jacksonville is loaded with great park options. The Riverfront Park was a great place to rest and see stunning sites and we used this time to burn energy and also catch up on a little reading and studying as well.
Being able to use a giant park as your outdoor classroom is a great way to spend the day!
Eat at all the diverse restaurants
We love the food scene at Jacksonville. You can literally have a lesson on the various foods and countries that they’re popular in, as you’re sitting and chowing down.
Most are in a short walking distance to popular areas as well which makes it super simple to get about town with the kids in tow.
As you can tell, if you want to take a visit to Jacksonville, FL and create a learning experience out of it, do so! There are so many kid-friendly museums and venues to visit that are packed full of knowledge and fun.
Pack up the backpacks with a few snacks and treats and spend the day on a daytrip combined with learning.
