Wizards Synopsis
Following Trollhunters and the second series 3Below, Wizards marks the final chapter in the epic Tales of Arcadia trilogy that brings together the three disparate worlds of trolls, aliens and wizards. In the newest installment, wizard-in-training Douxie (Colin O’Donoghue) and the heroes of Arcadia embark on a time-bending adventure to medieval Camelot that leads to an apocalyptic battle for the control of magic that will determine the fate of these supernatural worlds that have now converged.
Wizards Review
We had the opportunity to pre-screen Wizards Tales of Arcadia before it came out on Netflix today, and while the notion that trilogies may or may not have the final punch that we all want when it comes to the ending of a series. Wizards delivers on several different levels, more action and a storyline that shows us how the story all began.
Wizards Characters
What we loved about Wizards was that we were able to see our favorite characters, come to terms with who they had become. We saw “Claire” being able to do some amazing things in the shadow realm, “Jim” make some significant sacrifices along the way, “Morgana” and her back story, and “Steve” be a huge asset to the group. We don’t want to giveaway to many spoilers but get ready to be immersed for the full ten episodes.
In Wizards we also get to see some new characters appear such as “Archie” who is “Douxie’s “pal, “Callista” who awesomely enough is a female troll who helps “Jim” and who in the end left us surprised as to how she really is. The fact that we get to see some girl power in Wizards goes to show that this show truly is for everyone of all ages and genders.
While you may be asking your self why the title is called “Wizards” it is due in part to how the storyline revolves around magic. We get to see “Douxie” who had a small part in both “Trollhunters” and “3Below” be the main character in the trilogy. “Douxie” is a wizard in training that has been Merlin’s apprentice for quite sometime, and can be a bit clumsy can be understandable considering he is a teenager. In the end he plays an important part in saving the world, even if he is nine-hundred years old.
Camelot
Wizards is set in Camelot where we get to see King Arthur and Exalibur, and while we don’t want to give any spoilers away we see a lot of the relationship that “Arthur” and “Morgana” have. Be prepared to see a lot of knights, castles, and a whole lot of Merlin.
Animation
Considering that the first two series had an incredible amount of high quality graphics, Wizards stepped it up a notch in the amount of detail that the design team put into the characters and the scenery. Not to mention the emotion that we get to see from all of the characters. Anything that has Guillermo del Toro’s touch on it you know will be epic.
Kids Perspective
Usually when we get to preview any movie or series that are family oriented we like to have our kids watch the series with us so that we can get their perspective and get their thoughts. Both boys watched it, and we later sat down and did a Q & A on their thoughts os the series. Now mind you they are five and eight year old so these answers will reflect that LOL!
Q: Who was your favorite character in Wizards?
G: I really liked Douxie he reminds me of me, how clumsy he is. But I like him because he is super powerful and had a good heart!
S: Archie was my favorite I like that he was a cat that could fly, and that he is Douxie’s partner kind of like me and G like brothers.
Q: Did you think that the series was scary?
G: I didn’t think it was very scary there were some parts that you know surprised me a bit.
S: No, I thought it was funny. Trolls don’t scare me.
Q: What was your favorite part of Wizards?
G: How the characters overcame when bad things would happen. They found a way to work together. But if I had to pick something else it would be the magic Douxie was so powerful that was very cool.
S: I liked the action of the characters fighting the bad guys, and I would like to be a knight mom!
Family Friendly
Many have seen the trilogy as a pre-teen to teen series, but the truth is that this series is great for the whole family. As mentioned before the kids are five and eight, and loved it. We didn’t have to worry about any bad language or any gruesome scenes with blood everywhere. If you are worried if your smaller kid may enjoy it, I would say there are one or two scenes that are a little intense but not to the point where the kids may freak out.
Interviews With Colin O’Donoghue And Marc Guggenheim
Not only did we get to pre-screen Wizards early but we also had the opportunity to interview Colin O’Donoghue who voices “Douxie” in the series along with the executive producer of the series Marc Guggenheim.
If you aren’t familiar with Colin O’Donoghue well you may have been living under a rock somewhere! Just kidding but really if you were a fan of the “Once Upon A Time” series you would know that Colin played “Captain Hook”. So when we found out he was the voice of “Douxie” in Wizards we were ecstatic!
Marc Guggenheim the man is full of talent from writer, to executive producer, and producer Marc has produced some of our most binge worthy shows AKA “Arrow”, and “DC Legends of Tomorrow” so it was great to see how much work Marc put into Wizards and boy did he deliver.
Below is our interview with both Colin and Marc where I was able to ask them each of few questions on the series. I hope you all enjoy this treat!
