Finding 'Ohana - An Adventure For All Ages

If you’re looking for an amazing and adventurous film, you’re going to love the movie “Finding ‘Ohana” currently playing on Netflix.

The boys and I were able to snuggle up on the couch and catch a sneak peek at this movie, and I don’t think I heard a peep from anyone at all while it was one. (No one even moved for snacks, either!)

The 80’s child in me was ecstatic about how this movie was laid out because I loved that the setting was in Hawaii but it totally had a feel of one of my other favorite movies, The Goonies. It was full of adventure, laughter, friendship, and the star was a female lead who definitely stole the show!

The search for pirate treasure is on and along with Geocaching, loved that there is a female lead of the pack and that along the way they are all with finding the true meaning of “OHANA”!! Also loved that in the film we see two siblings try to reconnect, and find their true Hawaiian heritage. Loved seeing a lot of teen empowerment in the film especially female empowerment.

Adventure, empowerment, culture, and friendship are what this new feature film on Netlfix is all about.

Finding ‘Ohana – An Adventure For All Ages

The script was written by Christina Strain and she literally nailed out. I’m still obsessing over the fact that this is a newly released movie for teens because as an adult, I’m pretty obsessed with it.

I loved how this film stayed true to the Hawaiian culture while perfectly creating a story that drew us all in from the start.

And let me tell you, the scenery in this film is beautiful. I had Hawaii on my bucket list before watching this film but I’ve since bumped it up higher!

Q&A About Finding ‘Ohana

I had the chance to sit down and talk to those who created and starred in the movie, and I was blown away by their enthusiasm and love for the film.

Even though they were “technically” done with the movie, it was obvious that this was a project that was near and dear to their heart. This only made me love the movie even more because I have huge respect for females in leading positions that turn their passions into the opportunity to break the glass ceiling and rise up above the rest.

It’s no secret that I’m a huge Marvel fan so I’m all about movies with action and adventure. (and Goonies is still one of my top favorite films, ever!)

One of the questions that I was able to ask was what helped to inspire the screenplay to create this film?

The answer couldn’t have been more perfect. This movie was meant to be fun and be a “Goonies meets Hawaii”, which spoke directly to my heart.

Since they’d also grow up a fan of the ’80s and ’90s, having something relatable to 20 years ago was key for this film. Their love and passion come through in every shot, screen, and passing minute. It’s literally one of my favorite movies that I’ve watched in a really long time.

Another super important question that was asked was how did they incorporate the Hawaiian cultures and rituals in this film?

Being able to respect Hawaiian culture was super important to this film and they knew that they wanted to leave the space better than how they found it. Once you watch this movie, it’s obvious that they researched the Hawaiian culture and customs and did an amazing job at being respectful of them.

And after watching this film, I can assure you that they did an amazing job at representing the Hawaiian culture and being respectful in the process.

After watching the movie, the boys and I had a talk about the film and what we rated it. This movie checked all the boxes for me as it was family-friendly, exciting, funny, and located in the amazing and beautiful state of Hawaii.

Our rating for this family-friendly movie is 10/10 and we’re already planning another movie night to watch it again.
