As parents, we are always telling our kids that it’s not okay to play with your food. But what happens when you can use food items to help launch into educational and learning opportunities?
As a homeschool mom, I’m always on the lookout for ways to make learning more fun and different. Since we don’t have the means of a “traditional classroom” setting, we often find ourselves in a situation where we use the objects around us to help us learn and build engagement.
Our latest learning adventure was not only tasty, but it was educational, too. For the past week, we’ve started our days off with breakfast bowls full of NEW Blueberry Cheerios…and we’ve learned a lot!
When Is It Okay to Play with Your Food?
You might be wondering where I’m going with this…but just hear me out. Not only are Cheerios’s delicious, but they are the perfect size and shape to use as learning tools, too.
Here’s the great part about Cheerios…all kids love them! And the flavor that we love just happens to be blueberry, but there are a lot of other flavors out there as well!
So, what do we do to add Blueberry Cheerios learning into our homeschooling days?
- Smaller kids can create necklaces and art with Cheerios
Not only are they great homemade gift items, but using Blueberry Cheerios to create crafts is also a great way to work on hand-eye coordination as well! String the Cheerios on some string or work on their fine motor skills to pick up the Cheerios to stack them…and those are just a couple of ways!
- Work on math skills using Cheerios
Eating and learning at the same time can be a ton of fun! Set out Blueberry Cheerios and have your child count them. Then, take away a few and find out how many there are left. You can do this over and over and fuel their brains and body with whole grain oats!
- Use Cheerios to work on spelling
It’s obvious that Cheerios look like the letter “o”, so work on your child spelling words using their Cheerios. Grab a piece of paper, write out the word and leave a few spaces for them to write in the missing letters. But if one of the missing letters is on “o”, they need to place a Cheerio there instead!
See how much fun it can be to use Blueberry Cheerios in your homeschool planning?! Plus, it’s a great way to kick off the morning by not only filling their tummies but starting to fill their minds as well!
We not only enjoy Blueberry Cheerios for learning we also love them for breakfast or for our before bed snack. I love the fact that they are made from Blueberry puree, and other natural flavors you can find these Blueberry Cheerios at Walmart!
