8 Tips for Monster Jam with Younger Kids

We just had the amazing opportunity to head out to Raymond James Stadium to check out Monster Jam. Monster Jam is an incredible event with tour dates all over the United States. It can be a lot of fun for the entire family. That said, you will definitely need to adjust your approach if you are going with smaller children. Here are my tips for Monster Jam with younger kids.

Tips for Monster Jam with Younger Kids

Plan for Merchandise

If you have a child who likes to pick up a memento at the event make sure to plan to bring cash for these items. There will be different vendors throughout your venue ready to sell you many different Monster Jam themed merchandise. You can also pick up a Monster Jam Hot Wheels to surprise them with when you are in the venue instead of paying the higher merchandise prices.

The Pit Party has Meet and Greets

If you decide to pay for the pit party you will have the opportunity to meet and greet some of the drivers. Keep in mind that they will have long lines. I suggest deciding who you really want to meet and have a few that you are really focused on meeting. If you manage expectations before you head in, you are less likely to see a child who is disappointed. There are also some great sponsors at the pit party that have games that your children can win prizes at. These are a fun option to let them doing something fun.

Plan to tailgate

If you are planning on going to the pit party there will be a time between the pit party and the show where you will have to kill some time. This is a great time to head back to the car and do a picnic as a family. I recommend filling a cooler with drinks and snacks. This is also a great time to let them grab a nap or play on their Kindles.

Use protective ear wear

It is very loud in the venue. Make sure to bring earplugs or noise canceling headphones so that your child can be protected from the loud noises.

Trucks will wreck

For a younger child, it can be scary to see their favorite driver wreck. Talk before going about the fact that they will wreck and some trucks may not return to the show if they can not be repaired. This will help your child to enjoy the event without getting upset about losing a favorite truck.

Plan for the weather

When we went it was unseasonably cold. Because the venue was outside this made it very difficult. We didn’t bring jackets equal to the cold. Make sure to look at what the weather will be and plan accordingly.

Get seats close to the bathroom!

Younger children need to go to the bathroom fairly often. It may seem great to save money and sit higher up. However, if you are too high up you will spend most of the event walking up and down the stairs to get to the bathroom.

There are 2 halves to the show

The show is split into 2 halves. The first half has less of the big jumps and stunts that most younger children really enjoy. If you are there for the jumps and tricks you are going to go thru the first half which is not as action-packed. The second half is when they do all of the freestyle and it is definitely more engaging for younger viewers. If you are after the thrills you can either come late or plan to have all bathroom breaks done in time for the second half.
