In today’s world, parenting is hard. You think you’re doing something right, but often times end up feeling beat up about your decision. You are not alone. It is possible to parent without getting discouraged. You don’t have to feel like you’ve done something wrong each and every day of your parenting life. Here are some tips to help you feel a little more upbeat about parenting!
#1. Realize you’re not perfect
I almost think the minute you realize you are not perfect and don’t have to be, you take a lot of pressure off yourself. You are only human. Once you understand this, you can start to parent more freely. You can take the stress off by NOT trying to be this perfect parent that no one will ever become. This is always the #1 way to parent without being discouraged.
#2. Let loose a little bit
Every parent has their pet peeves, but if you’re uptight, parenting is going to be a lot tougher. My advice to you is to parent without being so strict. Let the kids make a mess. Let the kids run around and be loud. It’s discouraging when you ask your kids to stop running or to stop being loud. The bad news is that kids are always loud and they never stop moving. It’s almost better if you learn to embrace it. Of course, I say this with having boundaries. You can have rules, just realize that your kids will probably break them from time to time.
#3. Encourage your spouse and have them encourage you!
I think it’s vital to remember that you and your spouse are on the same team. Spend time encouraging your spouse and vice versa. When you know that you each are trying your hardest, it makes a world of difference. Send quotes and compliments to your spouse. Tell them they’re doing a great job. Don’t be shy about telling your spouse that you need to hear encouraging words from them as well. It’s easy to get discouraged, but words can really build you up!
#4. Lock yourself in your room
Parenting is exhausting from constantly doing the dishes to going to work to provide for the family. When you need a break, take it. You’re going to be able to tackle more parenting issues when you feel refreshed and ready to go. You don’t really have to lock yourself in your room. However, it is a good idea if you want to eat your chocolate snack in peace.
Parenting without getting discouraged comes down to making life a little more fun. Life isn’t meant to be so serious, which is why we should learn to relax.
