We all try and eat healthily whenever possible. This means we often cook certain meals or buy certain food instead of others. We think we’re doing a great job cooking for ourselves and our family, ensuring everyone is eating nice healthy stuff.
But, are they?
What if I told you that some of your healthy meals and food aren’t actually as healthy as you think. Many hidden things often take something we might call ‘healthy’ and actually make it worse for us. To help you understand this in more depth, here are a few reasons your meals aren’t as healthy as you think:
Your Food/Drink Contains Aspartame
The chances are you have no idea what aspartame is. But, if you try and eat healthily, then you’ve probably ingested it. Basically, it’s a sweetener that’s found in a lot of diet and ‘healthy’ products and is used to replace sugar. The problem is, it has also been linked to loads of other health problems such as cancer and weight gain. So, if you think you’re healthy by buying something with ‘No added sugar’ but it contains aspartame, then it might even be worse for you. Always check the ingredients, there are other sweeteners out there that are far better for your health and don’t have side effects!
You Use Teflon Lined Cookware
Loads of us use Teflon coated products when we cook because of the non-stick properties they have. However, did you know that the coating in these pans is often made using a dangerous chemical? While it’s true that only a small amount is used, you could still see health problems if you overuse your pan and get this coating in your food. Essentially, no matter how healthy the meal is, if you cook it in one of those pans it will end up with chemicals in it. What other options do you have? Well, as it shows on www.StonefryingPANS.com, there are plenty of pans out there that claim to be healthy and Teflon free. If you truly want to cook food that’s free from any harmful chemicals – regardless of how small the concentration is – then this might be an option for you.
You’re Serving The Wrong Portion Sizes
No matter how healthy a meal is on paper, it can be made unhealthy by massive portion sizes. If you see one meal in a recipe book that’s only 300 calories and looks healthy, but you serve up double the portion size, then you’re doubling the calories, salt, fats, and everything else. There are some good resources on sites like www.healthyeating.org that show you how to control portion sizes properly. Stop serving up too much food, and start serving the correct portions to keep your meals as healthy as can be.
You see, you might unknowingly be adding harmful substances to your meals, or just serving up way too much food. These things can turn healthy food into unhealthy food, really quickly. Bear all of this in mind when you cook your next meal so you can truly make it healthy!
