I recently had the opportunity to drive the all-new 2023 ID.4 from Volkswagen, this brand-new EV SUV has a lot of bells and whistles but I am going to share with you five reasons why it needs to be on your radar.

EV Buying
If you know me and some of the car reviews I do I try to be as honest as possible when it comes to what fits you as a woman, and your lifestyle. EVs are not for everyone just yet, and quite honestly if you have not yet ever tried out an EV I highly would highly try to go hybrid first just to get in the feel of what it is you are buying.
However, if you really want an EV or have had one in the past then I will have to say you will love to have this beauty in your garage. Buts let’s get down to business on why this is ideal in our hectic day as parents or work day.
Quick Charging Capability
You get complimentary charging on Electrify America’s network that in itself saves you some doe. Rolling out with the 2023 model year, Volkswagen is releasing the ‘Plug and Charge’ functionality, a feature that allows drivers to effortlessly charge their cars through a handshake, similar to that at a Tesla Supercharger aka (It chargers fast like your lighting cord for your Apple iPhone)
As for the included charging, Volkswagen provides three years of 30-minute charging sessions on Electrify America for the original owner. The 82kWh ID.4s will be capable of 175kW fast charging, but the 62kWh Standard examples haven’t yet been given a charging rate.
The base Volkswagen ID.4, offers a pretty substantial range of 208 miles, but the higher trims are even more impressive. All other ID.4 examples have an 82kWh battery, but the range is dependent on which powertrain is selected. AWD dual-motor variants can go 255 miles on a full charge, whereas RWD models can reach a rather impressive 275 miles. Basically, this means the ID.4 is a great SUV to take on road trips.
Great Safety Features
At $37,495, the Volkswagen ID.4 comes surprisingly equipped with an array of driving safety features. This is because Volkswagen includes IQ.DRIVE as standard on all ID.4 models. This package contains Travel Assist 2.0, a system featuring adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keeping assist, and driver-initiated lane-changing abilities. Volkswagen added additional parking technology for the 2023 model year, like a parking assistant with memory functionality.
IQ.DRIVE technology monitors the road ahead with the ability to help brake on its own. It’ll first provide audio and visual alerts when you’re driving at higher speeds and at risk of a potential collision. Then, if necessary, it’ll automatically apply brakes to help mitigate or avoid a collision.
When Travel or Lane Assist is active and something serious happens where you lose the ability to drive, IQ.DRIVE technologies can help bring you to a stop. First, it’ll alert you numerous times and if you’re still unresponsive, it’ll bring the car to a controlled stop, helping to keep you and others on the road safer.
Technology Centered
Seriously I have driven quite a few cars, and I have to say Volkswagens cars are the most technologically advanced. Not only do you get that with any Volkswagen but ID.4 is no exception, it has the ability to open or close the sunroof with the swipe of your finger. As well as adjust your climate and access your menu pad.
Most of us tend to forget where we place our keys we have to scramble in our purses to find the keys at any time of the day. Let’s face it depending on where you live especially in the winter no one has time to either be standing outside in the cold or water for our fingers to freeze inside the car while we take everything out. Apparently, Volkswagen thought of that The ID.4 senses your presence and intuitively starts when you have your key fob and you sit in the driver’s seat, “waking up” automatically. Screens blink on, and the car is ready for the road. Just put your foot on the brake, twist to Drive and you’re off!
To enhance your driving experience, ID.4 has several features, such as wireless phone charging. And to access even more functions including Plus Nav EV and Plus Speech EV, both at no additional cost for three years, just activate Car-Net with your my VW app. The My VW app is great for seeing where there are charging stations in your area.
Similar to an Automatic Vehicle
Now you saw my point up top about getting into a hybrid before an EV however if you are going to go straight into an EV this might be the one for you.
The Volkswagen ID.4 simply feels very much like a gas car in terms of its driving dynamics. The ID.4 mimics a vehicle with an automatic transmission, so it creeps forward without the throttle depressed, and there is no way to disable it. Moreover, even in Sport mode, the accelerator seems to replicate the feel of a gasoline car. Paired together with an expansive front windshield providing excellent visibility, there is no doubt that the ID.4 is a comfortable and easy car to drive.
It’s an AWD EV meaning getting a second electric motor at the front wheels–giving you quicker acceleration and intelligent handling that distributes all that power where it’s needed most.

Tax Credit Plus Lower Pricing
New for the 2023 model year is the addition of the entry-level $37,495 ‘Standard’ model. Factoring in the $7,500 federal tax credit, the entry-level ID.4 has an effective MSRP of under $30,000, plus destination and dealer fees. Volkswagen also offers the most affordable dual-motor crossovers with a starting price of $46,295. These price points undercut virtually all its competition, like the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Mustang Mach-E, and others.
- Hyundai IONIQ 5 pricing starts at $39,950
- Kia EV6 pricing starts at $41,400
- Ford Mustang Mach-E pricing starts at $43,895
- Chevrolet Blazer EV pricing starts at $44,995
