Godmothered Synopsis
Set at Christmas time, “Godmothered” is a comedy about Eleanor, a young, inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training (Jillian Bell), who upon hearing that her chosen profession is facing extinction, decides to show the world that people still need fairy godmothers.
Finding a mislaid letter from a 10-year-old girl in distress, Eleanor tracks her down and discovers that the girl, Mackenzie, is now a 40-year-old single mom (Isla Fisher) working at a news station in Boston.
Having lost her husband several years earlier, Mackenzie has all but given up on the idea of “happily ever after,” but Eleanor is bound and determined to give Mackenzie a happiness makeover, whether she likes it or not.
“Godmothered” Review
Recently we had the privilege of getting to pre-screen Disney Plus new movie “Godmothered” before it airs on December 4th. Usually when we watch family films we like to have the kids watch with us so that we can also get their opinions of the movie.
Below you will find some questions that we asked them with regard to the movie and their opinions. Mind you Geo is eight and Seba is five so you will get that perspective first.
Q: Did you like that the movie was real-life vs animation?
G: I did! I really like seeing fairy Godmothers as real people, and the best part is that we got see real animals cleaning the house!! I liked Cinderella the cartoon but I liked that maybe I could have a fairy godmother as well.
S: Yes! I like being able to see the magic up close and for real vs a cartoon, because magic is real! I want a fairy godmother!
Q: Who was your favorite character in the movie?
G: Eleanor is my favorite, she never gave up on her dream to help someone. I think we should all be like Eleanor wanting to help other people.
S: Gary!! I liked GARY he is a very cool raccoon and I want him to come and help with our Christmas decorations.
Q: What was your favorite scene in the movie?
G: When Eleanor makes the watermelon into a carriage, I thought that was really cool. Plus happy she made it happen because she blew up all of the pumpkins.
S: I liked when Eleanor slide down the snow slide, and then she accidentally runs into the news reporter. I love snow tubing and the snow so that was my favorite.
As you can tell the kids really enjoyed the movie, and it really is a great movie for the entire family to watch.
“Godmothered” A Breath Of Fresh Air
While some may characterize :Godmothered” as another version of “Enchanted” I have to say we disagree. “Enchanted” was a great mix of animation, music, and comedy yet different from “Godmothered”.
“Godmothered” while being funny and still having that good feeling of fairy tales coming true, I loved that it had a very realistic aspect to the storyline. We got to see Disney touch on important matters such as death, grief, and the importance of self care for women.
We get to see the main character Mckenzie played by Isla Fisher go through many stages in her life, which is relatable I think to many mothers and women alike. Unlike the average fairy tale storyline we get to see two people fall in love in a very real and unique way in which your average couple today would.
Overall Disney did a great job with the storyline so get ready to laugh, and cry a little, with this great holiday film on Disney Plus.
