SAFETY is a drama inspired by the empowering story of former Clemson University football safety Ray McElrathbey (Jay Reeves), a young man facing a series of challenging circumstances, whose dedication and persistence help him to triumph over repeated adversities. Aided by his teammates and the Clemson community, he succeeds on the field while simultaneously raising and caring for his 11-year-old brother Fahmarr (Thaddeus J. Mixson).
Get Inspired
This year has been a challenging one for everyone, and it is always great to see Disney bringing films that inspire. Safety is just that a film that will leave you feeling good all around, I love films that are inspired by true stories because sometimes I feel like we can all relate to them in some way shape or form.
Ray’s story is somewhat relatable to my own life in some ways, my dad had me at a very young age and had to raise me by himself for a whole. I was adopted by my grandma and grandpa for a short period of time, because my mom was also young and decided she could not take care of me.
Family
You may think this is just another football movie, but that’s where you’re wrong “Safety” is more about family than anything. It shows how the Clemson family came together to not only support Ray but stand behind him and Fay through the worst of times.
It showed how Ray’s teammates came together to have his back in different situations, and they showed their dedication in doing practices with him and taking in Fay as one of their own.
Family Affair
Safety is a perfect film to watch with the whole family, one thing that I also loved about the film was the music from the 90’s can you say Millenial!! Gave me back some good ole memories, but the movie also has some funny moments that we laughed at a bit, some good life lessons, and some teachable moments that can be discussed as a family.
Safety is now streaming on Disney Plus so make some time to add that to your playlist this weekend.
